Caledonian Rose is a genuine all round potato. It is easy to grow, can produce high yields of bold tubers with good disease ratings.
Key Characteristics:
  • Appearance: Oval tubers with bright red skin and creamy, yellow flesh.
  • Texture & Taste: A good balance between floury and waxy, offering a fluffy yet creamy finish with a mild flavour.
  • Culinary Uses: Perfect for virtually any potato dish, including roasting, mashing, baking, boiling, chipping, and wedges.
  • Disease Resistance: Good resistance to PCN (potato cyst nematode) and scab, with some resistance to blight.
  • Growth Habit: A maincrop variety, typically ready for harvest 15-22 weeks after planting, usually from September to October.

Growing Tips:

  • Planting: Plant maincrop seed potatoes from March to May (after the last frost) in full sun and well-drained soil.
  • Chitting: Encourage sprouts by chitting seed potatoes in a cool, bright spot before planting.
  • Earthing Up: Draw soil up around the stems as they grow to protect tubers from light and frost.
  • Harvesting: Lift potatoes when the foliage turns yellow and dies back, usually in late summer or autumn.
